The Sire Side of This Story

My last post was about the Savage-Leigh farms and the two bulls, Ludwig and Golden Luck, who come from their Licorice family. We do have two more bulls that return to the Savage-Leigh Licorice family, but you’ve already heard the story about her. I want to talk about their Sire, Windy-Knoll-View Pronto-ET EX-95, and his remarkable family. Let’s start at the beginning.

Windy-Knoll-View Pronto-ET EX-95

Windy-Knoll-View Farms is located in Mercedes, PA. In March of 1985, a calf was born to an 88 point cow sired by Quality Ultimate. This cow would grow up to be the best brood cow owned by the owners of the farm, Jim and Nina Burdette. This cow was Windy-Knoll-View Ultimate Pala; a fitting name for a cow who produced 155 registered progeny with 18 excellent daughters and many more excellent bulls in stud, including Pronto.

Pala was scored EX-94-3E and was a Dam of Merit. Her lifetime milk production record is

March 14, 1985 – May 19, 2004

123,650 lbs milk, 4.7% 5777 lbs fat 3.3% 4077 lbs protein. Many of her daughters scored 92 and above. Some of her daughters who’ve done well are Windy-Knoll-View Peggy-ET (EX-94 3E), Windy-Knoll-View CC Pear-ET (EX-94 2E),Windy-Knoll-View Promis-ET (EX-95 2E), and Windy-Knoll-View Pantene, who many of you may remember from the story of Reese Burdette, the 7 year old girl who spent over 2 years in the hospital after severe burns from a house fire. Pantene was the cow that came to visit her at the New York Hospital.

In addition to the 18 excellent daughters, Pala has sons and grandsons in AI in multiple studs, including Global, Select Sires, Taurus, and Foundation Sires.

Savage-Leigh Lang

Pala’s daughter, Windy-Knoll-View Promis-ET (EX-95 2E) is the dam of Pronto. He also has a full sister out of Promis that is scored 95-3E. Pronto has thousands of daughters in over 5,000 herds and many sons in AI. Two sons include Lang and Lawbreaker, available at Global Genetics.

Both of these sons are out of cows in the Savage-Leigh Licorice Family. Lang is a son of Licorice herself, and Lawbreaker is a son of Savage-Leigh Dundee Lou. This is an esceptional cross of two strong cow families with extensive pedigrees and amazing Matriarchs. These two bulls are a complete package for any dairy farm.
